    Sinopse

An atom is the smallest constituent unit of ordinary matter that has the properties of a chemical element. Every solid, liquid, gas, and plasma is composed of neutral or ionized atoms. Atomic structure is the foundation of materials science. From a basic materials science point of view, the arrangement of the electrons is the most important aspect of atomic structure. The text Atomic Structure presents a new conceptual approach to atomic structure. Atomic structure of graphene and h-BN layers and their interactions with metals has been discussed in rst chapter. Second chapter focuses on crystallization of supercooled liquid elements induced by superclusters containing magic atom numbers. In third chapter, we build atomic structure models of multi-principal-element alloys with components ranging from four to eight elements according to the principle of maximum entropy. Fourth chapter describes critical assessment of theoretical calculations of atomic structure and transition probabilities. In fth chapter, we investigate the plastic behavior of the Mg-rich end-member, the distorted orthorhombic magnesium silicate MgSiO3 perovskite. Atomic-level structure characterization of an ultrafast folding mini-protein denatured state has been presented in sixth chapter. The atomistic structure of metal/ceramic interfaces is the key issue for developing better properties, which has been discussed in seventh chapter. Eighth chapter focuses on atomic structure and composition of the Yttria-stabilized zirconia (111) surface. A model that depicts the packing of nucleons in a nucleus based on the conception of covalent molecule con guration has been proposed in ninth chapter. In tenth chapter, a concerted approach by X-ray crystallography and DFT calculation has been used, which takes advantage of both the high interpretative power of the theoretical studies and the precision and reliability of the experimental method. Eleventh chapter reports that the three di erent variants of -mann
