    Sinopse

An ionic liquid is a salt in which the ions are poorly coordinated, which results in these solvents being liquid below 100°C, or even at room temperature. At least one ion has a delocalized charge and one component is organic, which prevents the formation of a stable crystal lattice. Ionic liquids are one of the most interesting and rapidly developing areas in modern physical chemistry, materials science, technologies, and engineering. Ionic Liquids: New Aspects for the Future provides the forum for dissemination and exchange of up-to-date scientific information on theoretical, generic, and applied areas of ionic liquids. It, therefore, tends to review recent progresses in ionic liquid research on fundamental properties, solvents and catalysts in organic reactions, biological applications, providing energies and fuels, biomass conversions, functional materials, and other applications. First chapter introduces the advantages and issues related to the basic characteristics of ionic liquids as a lubricant, and it describes their future prospects, mainly for applications in vacuum. Second chapter presents a comparative study of piperidinium and imidazolium based ionic liquids. Third chapter explores on the dynamical properties on ionic liquids. Fourth chapter discusses the structure of supported ionic liquids at the interface. In fifth chapter, recent progress on the liquefaction of wood in an ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([C2mim][Cl]) is presented. In sixth chapter, the removal of sulfur compounds (S-compounds) from diesel fuels with different Ionic liquids are systematically reviewed. Applications of ionic liquids in lignin chemistry is reviewed in seventh chapter. The main objective of eighth chapter is to develop and study the applications of a new family of ILs based on substituted amine cations of the form RNH3 + combined with organic anions of the form R’COO- (being of different nature R and R’). Ninth chapter aims to ionic liquids as doping
