Sinopse
Often called the greatest work in the history of science, Newton's treatise integrated Kepler's laws of planetary motion and Galileo's thought on the laws of gravity to create an understanding of the organization of the universe as a system of universal gravitation. Here, Newton reduces his Principia Mathematica into propositions for those who could not otherwise "easily discern the strength of the consequences." This verbatim reprint includes the original typography, chapter headings ("That the matter of the Heavens is fluid"), and pagination. Newton's original was published in Latin in 1687; the second edition of the English translation, the edition preferred by most modern scholars, was published in 1731. This is a reprint of the 1731 edition published by William Dawson in 1969, and includes an introduction about the work's history by J. Bernard Cohen.
