Este es un libro de hospitales. Se trata de una narración ilustrada de los proyectos y obras que han ocupado cuatro décadas del quehacer profesional conjunto de dos arquitectos, Alfonso Casares Ávila y Reinaldo Ruiz Yébenes, con sus colaboradores. El fondo sobre el que se desarrolla su obra es el gran conjunto de edificios de la red española de hospitales, construida desde 1940 hasta nuestros días, fondo sobre el que destacan las aportaciones de ambos arquitectos, a menudo pioneras e introductoras de modelos y maneras ampliamente seguidas por sus colegas en las construcciones sanitarias. Interesados en las novedades europeas y americanas, pudieron innovar desde sus primeros trabajos la rutina de las instituciones y del proyecto del gran hospital de agudos, que ha sido y es la pieza más importante del sistema de salud español.
This is a book about hospitals. It is an illustrated account of the designs and buildings that represent four decades of the joint work of two architects, Alfonso Casares Avila and Reinaldo Ruiz Yebenes, with their collaborators. The backdrop against which their work is set is the Spanish hospital system and its vast group of buildings, constructed from 1940 until the present time. The contributions of both architects to this field, often pioneering and introducing models and styles in medical buildings widely followed by their colleagues, have been outstanding. Interested in the latest styles and methods from Europe and the United States, they were able to bring innovations to the routine of the institutions from their earliest projects, and to the design of the large acute hospital, which has been and still is the most important component in the Spanish healthcare system.
