GAY DAY - GOLDEN AGE OF THE CHRISTOPHER STREET PARADE

Celebrate the gay pride parade in NYC that was the inspiration for others like it around the country. This newly unearthed collection of never-before-published photos was taken during the early days of the nation's first gay pride parade. Hank O'Neal chronicled the NYC gay pride parade from the spontaneous ritual held soon after the Stonewall Riots to the more glamorous parades of the '80s, before AIDS turned it into a political necessity. The photos, captioned by Allen Ginsberg and laid aside until now, capture the community and spirit of the gay pride parade in its earliest stages, when it was held on Christopher Street. This personal look into the roots of one of the city's most vibrant traditions is an important addition to gay/lesbianliterature and photo documentation.
