Geraldo de Barros (1923-1998) was one of the greatest representatives of modernism in Brazil. He assimilated the principles of the Design School of Ulm (Germany), brought them to South America and encouraged many of his colleagues to join Concrete Art movement. Barros cultivated contacts with European artistic avant-garde and, in Brazil, was a pioneer developer, experiencing new trends, such as happening and Pop Art. This book presents an overview of the artist s life and work, organized chronologically and covering all aspects of its production with an emphasis on photography. | Biografia do autor | Fabiana de Barros formou-se em artes plásticas na Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado em São Paulo (FAAP), em 1983. Entre 1988 e 1991, fez pós-graduação em multimídia na École Supérieure d'Art Visuel de Genebra, Suíça. Entre outras performances, videoinstalações e web art, destaca-se o Fiteiro Cultural, apresentado desde 1998 no Brasil e no exterior e integrou as exposições 8ª Bienal de Havana, Cuba (2003), o Fórum Cultural Mundial, São Paulo (2004), a 7ª Bienal do Mercosul, Porto Alegre, e U-TOPICS 11th Swiss Sculpture Exhibition, Suíça (2009). Este trabalho resultou no livro Aberto [OPEN] Ouvert, publicado em 2004, pelo Sesc São Paulo. Desde 1989, dirige o arquivo fotográfico de Geraldo de Barros e organizou importantes exposições dedicadas ao artista no Ludwig Museum, na Alemanha, no Sesc Pompeia e Pinheiros, em São Paulo, no Musée de l'Elysée, na Suíça e no MoMA, em Nova York. Coordenou a edição dos livros Sobras e Fotoformas, que reproduzem a maior parte do trabalho fotográfico de Geraldo de Barros, pela editora Cosac Naify. Em 1996, produziu juntamente com a Tatu Filmes o filme longa-metragem Geraldo de Barros - Sobras em obras, sobre a vida e obra de Geraldo de Barros, dirigido por Michel Favre e apresentado nos festivais de cinema Visions du Réel em Nyon, na Suíça, na Mostra Internacional de Cinema em São Paulo e no Rio de Janeiro, no Millenium Film Festival em Szolnok, Hungria. O filme teve uma distribuição comercial nos cinemas na Suíça, foi veiculado em vários canais de TV do mundo e recebeu premiações na Genebra, no Rio de Janeiro e na Hungria. Fabiana de Barros graduated in fine arts in 1983 at the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) in São Paulo. Between 1988 and 1991, she postgraduated in multimedia at the Ecole Supérieure d'Art Visuel in Geneva, Switzerland. Among other performances, video installations and web art, the Cultural Fiteiro stand out, presented since 1998 in Brazil and abroad and has integrated the exhibitions 8th Biennial of Havana, Cuba (2003), the World Cultural Forum, at São Paulo (2004), the 7th Mercosul Biennial, at Porto Alegre, and U-TOPICS 11th Swiss Sculpture Exhibition, in Switzerland (2009). This work resulted in the book Aberto [OPEN] Ouvert, published in 2004 by Edições Sesc São Paulo. Since 1989, Fabiana directs the Geraldo Barros photographic archive and organized important exhibitions dedicated to the artist at the Ludwig Museum in Germany, at the Sesc Pompeia and Pinheiros, in São Paulo, at the Musée de l'Elysée in Switzerland and at MoMA in New York.
