INFECTIOUS DISEASES OF THE FETUS AND THE NEWBORN INFANT

Offering a review of what's known about infections of the fetus and newborn (in utero, during delivery, and in the first months of life), this reference has been kept current since 1976 with new editions appearing every five to seven years. The content encompasses general information (including a global perspective, obstetric factors, developmental immunology, and human milk); bacterial infections; viral infections; protozoan, helminth, and fungal infections; and diagnosis and management. Each contributed chapter reviews history, microbiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis and pathology, clinical signs, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and prevention. Readership includes a broad audience of practitioners involved with the care and well-being of children-obstetricians, pediatricians, and family doctors in particular, but also neurologists, audiologists, and other specialists who see the sequelae in children and adults. Editors Remington and Klein (of Stanford U. and Boston U., respectively) are joined for this edition by Wilson (U. of Washington) and Baker (Baylor College of Medicine).
